I'd just like to share this interesting and brilliant TEDx Talk on the roles of gender in films targeted for children. In 2012, Colin Stokes addresses the issue on the film industry's role in influencing children about what it means to be a girl and/or a boy. He also points out that a good film to let children watch would be the Wizard of Oz, because it shows good examples of equal gender roles.
